PEACE CONNECTION MOSTAR 2004 The project PEACE-CONNECTION Mostar 2004 - a temporary spatial installation by the authors W. M. Pühringer and Rifat Kurtagic - is an excellent example of committed art in affirmation of peace and altruistic values of mankind. The Old Bridge of Mostar remains unchanged in its essential core but enables a modern interpretation by an interplay between art, architecture and (civil) engineering. By no means does PEACE-CONNECTION question the ingenious masterpiece of the Middle Ages with all its values and symbolism as well as the necessity of the reconstruction of the destroyed bridge. The BRIDGE OF MOSTAR situated in Bosnia and Herzegovina bridges the worlds of East and West with its outstanding arc thus becoming a symbol of reunion. PEACE-CONNECTION is a modern expression of a timeless humane and universal message of peace. It is a transparent reminder and warning against any form of destruction. The realisation of this project would be an important step towards a revaluation of the town of Mostar, of Bosnia and Herzegovina and of universal civilisatory achievements of the world. That is why it deserves justified support, naturally also mine as initiator of the international project of the reconstruction of the Old Bridge of Mostar, the symbol for restoration and reconciliation of the peoples in Bosnia and Herzegovina and on the Balkans.
